Aim:- To encourage and promote junior tennis in the MRTA region

Selection:- Playing in the MRTA Selection Tournament (Jimmy Cusack) is the main criteria for being considered for selection in the squad. All junior members of clubs in the MRTA region are invited to enter the tournament. Consideration will also be given to squad members from the previous year, and by recommendation from tennis clubs and the MRTA. The 32 squad members (plus 6 emergencies) will be selected by the coach and the squad committee

Age groups in the squad are 12 & Under, 14 & Under, 16 & Under, 18 & Under as at 31st December in the applicable squad year.

When:- Squad training days are currently held on Sundays. Half the squad trains from 10am to 12 noon, and the other half train from 12.30pm to 2.30pm. The dates for this year:- (as above)

Cost:- In 2008 the squad cost was $150.

Junior Victorian Country Tennis Association (VCTA) Squads:- There are 13 squads throughout Victoria each having a maximum number of 32 members. The squads are divided into two regions. Two regional tournaments are held, one in April and the other in August. We are in the Southern Region and our tournaments will be held in Bendigo. These tournaments determine the regional winners. There is also an extra “Squad Challenge” tournament of the top 3 squads from both regions competing. In November the best players from the regions are invited to compete in the Creswick Masters. The best individuals at each age level become the VCTA champions and the overall Victorian Country Squad Champion is determined.

A commitment from children and parents to attend all Squad training sessions and tournaments is required.
